Rosebud-Lott ISD was awarded a summer career and technical education grant from the Texas Education Agency for the summer of 2023 to give students practical work experience.
The purpose of the grant is to assist districts in facilitating and monitoring work-based learning experiences for students during the summer months. Students were asked to apply and were chosen based on the applications received.
“It was offered to all P-Tech students,” said Kenneth Benson, P-Tech welding teacher. “I’m really proud of how hard they worked.”
RL students were given assignments to improve handrails in the city of Rosebud and building benches for the elementary school. Students received part-time pay and practical experience in welding.
This year marks the second year for P-Tech and the second group of students to enter the program. Students take two years of college level welding and cybersecurity classes to earn industry certifications before graduation.
