The Cougar baseball team clinched their playoff spot Saturday with a 16-6 win over Granger at Meacham Field.

The Cougars bats were on fire as each step up to the plate resulted in either a hit or base run. RL began early in the first inning with Ben Ford grounded out, sending two runners home. The team put in a total of eight hits the first inning led by Breon Lewis, Kade Kleypas, Logan Kleypas, Rolando Leon and Ford.

Granger answered back with three runs, but couldn’t outplay RL’s defense. Pitcher Jeremy Ellison held Granger to only three hits and five runs over three innings, striking out six. Rawling Barton took relief to get the win for the Cougars, allowing only one run on zero hits over two innings, striking out three.

By the fifth inning, the game was tied six all. Granger had been holding its own defensively until Lewis came to the plate and launched a home run, bringing in two runs with his own. Ellison and Leon led the team with multiple hits, Ellison with three hits at his three at bats.

The Cougars will have a playoff tune-up game this Friday at Meacham Field against the Valley Mills Eagles at 6pm. Playoff game information will be announced when available.
