The Cougar Welding team, consisting of freshmen Eric Hernandez and Javier Vaquera and Junior Zane Burns, competed in the Texas High School Welding Series in League City last Friday and placed first among all the participants. Welders were asked to build a chair that displayed their welding abilities along with school spirit. RL won the competition and earned over $12,000 in scholarships, $2,200 in gift cards, $700 in welding prizes, welding hoods and RLHS won a $1000 Northern Tool gift card. Welding students will be competing in various competitions throughout the school year.
