The Lady Cougars basketball team loss to the Crawford Lady Pirates last Friday night in Travis.

RL came out strong in the first period, scoring first and building a slim lead against the district leader. Unfortunately, Crawford’s offense came alive halfway through the first period, taking the lead from the Lady Cougars. Even key baskets from Erakah Easley, Clara Coker and Rakasia Buhl couldn’t pull the Lady Cougars closer in score and the first period ended with RL trailing by three. Crawford’s defense turned on their game in the second period and forced turnovers  to take an aggressive lead before the half and holding the Lady Cougars to only 10 points by halftime.

The second half started with Crawford having total control of the game. The Lady Cougars were able to keep scoring low for the Lady Pirates with tight defense, but Crawford was able to keep RL from scoring as well. Fould trouble hit the Lady Cougars late in the fourth period when Clara Coker fouled out. The Lady Cougars gave a last minute scoring surge late in the fourth, but still couldn’t pull even with the Lady Pirates and fell to the district leaders 22-32.

Leading scorers for the Lady Cougars included Buhl with two key 3-point shots and Emma Hering with 6 points.

The Lady Cougars head into the final games of the regular season in 4th place in district. The next two games will be pivotal in securing a playoff spot. RL travels to Valley Mills on Tuesday night to face the Lady Eagles and will be at home next Friday night to face the Bruceville-Eddy Lady Eagles.
