Lady Cougars lose district match-up to Valley Mills

Rosebud-Lott’s Lady Cougars lost a close match in district play to Valley Mills on Saturday, 36-41.

RL came out strong and led the game until the second quarter, when the Lady Eagles took control. Valley Mills out shot the Lady Cougars in the first half of the game under the basket while the Lady Cougars were plagued with turnovers through the first half. The Lady Cougars went into halftime, trailing 20-15.

After the half, the Lady Eagles came out strong with a scoring run of 9 points unanswered by the Lady Cougars. Valley Mills kept control of the game through the 3rd quarter even though RL outrebounded the Lady Eagles. The Lady Cougars missed several pivotal shots throughout the 4th quarter, but were able to catch-up and tie the game with 1:50 left when junior Rakasia Buhl hit a three point shot to tie the score. The Lady Eagles answered back though and took control after making several free-throw shots. In the end, the Lady Cougars ran out of time and fell short by 5 points.

Leading scorers for the game were Clara Coker with 13 points, Rakasia Buhl with eight points and Emma Hering with six points. The Lady Cougars fall to 2-3 in district play and will look to improve their record this Tuesday night against Bruceville-Eddy.
