The Rosebud Lott Powerlifting Team starts up their season with their first meet this Saturday in Bosqueville at 8:30am. The athletes and coaches feel excited and confident about this coming season.
“I feel confident going into this season,” said Head Coach Daniel Gilmore, “On the girl’s side we have a lot of experienced seniors and a talented younger group. It will be fun to watch the guy’s side grow because of how hard they work.”
With the season being just around the corner, the team has so many exciting things to look forward to, like all the amazing experiences this season has in store for them.
“I see the team going far and making many achievements,” said freshman Yazmin Aldana, “and I see everyone supporting each other.”
The coaches are excited to see what both the veterans and the newcomers will bring to the table, both on their own and as a team.
“We have a lot of returners so it’ll be fun to see if we can get regional champ again,” said Assistant Coach Chelsea Gilmore, “It will also be interesting to see if any of our newbies go to state.”
Along with the experiences to look forward to, the lifters have also set some amazing goals they want to accomplish this season.
“I’d like for our boys team to win regionals again and I’d like to place 3rd or 5th in state,” said junior Luke Price, “I would also like to inspire and help our younger lifters.”
Gilmore expressed many goals he has for the team.
“Keep our legs during the season, and don’t peak too early. Ramp up to the end of the season,” said Gilmore, “I’d like to win regionals again and get a plaque at state on the girl’s side.”
While they have some exciting goals and experiences ahead of them, it’s important to remember that both the team and the lifters will encounter a few challenges along the way.
“You know, the biggest challenge I’m going to encounter is definitely my mindset. Just because I can lift weights doesn’t really mean much on its own,” sophomore Princess Ponce explained, “It’s all about being consistent and keeping that drive to improve, even if the results aren’t showing up immediately.”
This year’s team is led by six returning seniors. As they get ready for their last season of competitions, they take a step back and think about how important and memorable this year will be.
“As a senior I can look back and look at all the progress I have made over the years along with the friendships as well,” said senior Sherlyn Mondragon Jaramillo, “I am ready to work my hardest every day so I can better myself and my team so we can get stronger, to get the most out of this year. This will help us succeed and reach for the goals we will work extremely hard for.”
The powerlifting team is eager to begin the competition season. Despite potential challenges, their experiences will prepare them for an outstanding 2025 season.
