The Roaring Cougar Band earned their 7th straight sweepstakes award yesterday when they earned straight 1s from the judges at the UIL Concert and Sightreading contest yesterday in Cameron.
Members of the band traveled to Cameron High School for the competition in which they play a set of songs for judges then move to another room and play a piece as a group for the first time. At each stage, the Cougar band was able to pull off straight 1s from the judges; the highest score they could receive from each judge.
“The results are a testament to their hard work, perseverance, and greatness,” said Jordan Sundermann, head director of the band. “We are proud of each and every one of them.”
The Cougar band earned the sweepstakes award for the year after their performances during marching band sending them to the state marching competition last fall and now their performance in the concert and sightreading competition.
The band will now be preparing for their final concert of the year scheduled for later in May.
