Students at Rosebud-Lott participated in the yearly tradition of Red Ribbon Week this past week. Students dressed each day in support of the being drug free!
Monday, students wore red in support of the week. Tuesday, students wore checks in an effort to “Check themselves” to be drug free. Wednesday was Wake up drug free where students wore their best PJs. Thursday, students wore Tie dye/ 70s attire to say Peace out to drugs! Friday, students wore neon colors to demonstrate that they were too bright to use drugs.
The week ended with the pep rally on Friday, celebrating the week and the seniors’ contribution to the school.
Red Ribbon Week was created in response to the death of DEA agent Enrique Camarena in 1987, who was killed in the line of duty. Parents and youth began wearing red ribbons in support of those that fight on the front line of the war on drugs. In 1988, an official National Red Ribbon celebration was held and has since morphed into a week long celebration of students and adults pledging to support being drug free. The week is now held at the end of October, in conjunction with Halloween, in an effort to bring awareness to the youth of America, the primary target of the drug trade (via Red Ribbon Week.org).
