The Varsity Cougar football team turned up the heat on district 8 this past Friday night, when they defeated the Bosqueville Bulldogs 45-21.
The Cougars were relentless in their offense, chipping away at the Bulldog’s defense a few yards at a time. Freshman Pryce Rabroker led the Cougars with 10 out of 20 completions for a total of 200 yards. Senior Jamarquis Johnson and Junior Carson Kahlig led the field in yards with a total of 109 passing yards. Senior Jayden Thomas had four catches with one touchdown. DJ Hicks rounded out the offensive performance with 19 carries for 106 total rushing yards and one touchdown.
The Cougars came out early in the first quarter with a touchdown by Kahlig of a pass from Rabroker. The defense held the Bulldogs to only 20 yards before forcing a punt. RL compounded the score with huge runs by Johnson and Kahlig from catches from Rabroker. The Bulldogs were able to sneak past the Cougar defense to score one touchdown late in the first quarter. Sophomore Bo McGinniss added yards to the Cougars offense with several key catches on third downs.
Defensive efforts doubled on both sides of the ball during the second quarter, keeping both offensive units to no points scored. Cougars led 21-7 at the half.
Second half brought a renewed Bulldog team out to the field. Bosqueville defense held the Cougars to only three points in the third quarter. The Bulldogs came roaring back during the fourth quarter, scoring two touchdowns until RL came back on their own to take the lead and keep climbing. The Cougars scored three touchdowns, one on a kick-off return by Johnson.
The Cougars go 3-1 in district play and look to improve this week against Valley Mills. The game will begin at 7:30pm at Valley Mills High School.
