Girls Varsity Falls to Bosqueville
January 15, 2022
The Lady Cougars fell to the Lady Bulldogs of Bosqueville this past Friday night in Travis.
“ I thought the girls played hard,” Coach Ellis said. “I feel like we are learning with every single game we do.”
For most of the game, the Lady Bulldogs dominated on offense. The Lady Cougars were struggling to put together ending points on their offensive runs. By the end of the first period, Bosqueville was up by 14 points and the Lady Cougars points were scored only by free throws.
Throughout the first half, the Lady Cougars defense held Bosqueville to low numbers, only allowing 27 points for the first half. Massive defensive efforts allowed the Cougars to force turnovers but couldn’t capitalize on those, only scoring 6 points in the first half by Zakiya Larkin and Kayley Robertson free throws.
Second half began with more energy and vigor from the Lady Cougars, but they could not capitalize on it until close to the end of the third period when Larkin finally made the first basket of the game. By the end of the third period, the Lady Bulldogs had pulled to a 30 point lead.
By the fourth period, the Lady Cougars were getting more aggressive in their play, attacking the basket more and making shots. Robertson put 10 points more on the board before the end of the game, Amillion Melton adding another basket to round out the Cougars offense.
The Lady Cougars fought to the end, but came up short against the Lady Bulldogs 22-53.
“We will learn from our mistakes every time we step on the court. Win, lose or draw, it is always a learning experience,” Coach Ellis said. “We’re always building for the future.”
Lady Cougars will prepare to face the Lady Bearcats of Moody this Tuesday night in Travis. Games begin at 5:30pm.
