The RLHS robotics team competed at the state tournament this past weekend in Frisco, TX.

With only one year experience, the robotics team, under the supervision of their advisor Audra Mock, were invitied to compete in the state-wide tournament. Although they were eliminated early in the competition, each member learned valuable lessons to use in the upcoming year.

“The team worked well and did not get discouraged,” said Mrs. Mock. “We competed against 1A-3A schools that have had programs for many years over us.”

With robotics being so new at Rosebud-Lott, being invited to the state competition was an achievement. Team members consisted of juniors Chandler Scott, Ashlie Gary, Logan Snyder and senior Rebecca Mendoza. Overall, Mrs. Mock was pleased with the results.

“The team won three matches and lost in the first round of eliminations,” Mrs. Mock said. “Rebecca did the driving and the building of the robot. She had to make changes to the robot before and during the event and none of them felt discouraged at any point.”

The future of the robotics team seems positive as Mrs. Mock looks to build a team with several returning members. She also hopes to have Mendoza return periodically as a mentor to the team.
