February 8, 2019
Lady Cougars defeated Valley Mills last Friday night to remain in third in district play.
Bruceville-Eddy came out strong in the first period, scoring first. Lady Cougars were unable to capitalize on two shots before Clara Coker was able to get the Rosebud-Lott on the scoreboard. The Lady Cougars’ defense was strong Friday night, causing Bruceville-Eddy several turnovers in the first half, but the Lady Cougars were unable to turn those into scores. Several missed opportunities by the Lady Cougars allowed the Lady Eagles to take a slight lead early in the game. Unanswered points by Emma Hering, Jenna Kleypas and Erakah Easley allowed the Lady Cougars to take the lead by the end of the first period. Rakasia Buhl helped improve the lead with several key shots in the second period to lead the Lady Cougars to the locker room at halftime with a 26-23 lead of the Lady Eagles.
Again, Bruceville-Eddy was the first to strike on the scoreboard with a three point shot, but that would be the last shot they would make for the next five minutes as the Lady Cougars went on a scoring streak with 8 unanswered points. Rosebud-Lott increased its defensive efforts to force turnovers throughout the half by the Lady Eagles. The Lady Cougars pulled ahead during the end of the 3rd period and beginning of 4th periods with a comfortable lead with baskets by Hannah Willberg and Kleypas. Bruceville-Eddy mounted a short lived comeback but couldn’t seem to capitalize on turnovers by Rosebud-Lott. The Lady Cougars pulled ahead to win 49-45.
Top scorers for the game included Clara Coker with 13 points, Hannah Willberg with 12 points, and Rakasia Buhl with 8 points.
Lady Cougars traveled to Chilton on Tuesday to finish the season with a win. Rosebud-Lott now turns their attention to Mart this Monday night, Feb. 11th, at Waco’s University High School at 6pm for Bi-district.
